Bollywood actor Rajiv Kapoor, the youngest son of the legendary Raj Kapoor, took his last breath on Tuesday, February 9, at the age of 58. He suffered a massive cardiac arrest, after which his elder brother, Randhir Kapoor, rushed him to Inlaks Hospital, near their residence in Chembur. He was declared dead by the doctors.
Rajiv Kapoor was the youngest brother of Randhir Kapoor and late Rishi Kapoor. Though known for his incredible performance in “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” (1985), he made his Bollywood debut with “Ek Jaan Hain Hum” in 1983. He made his mark in movies such as “Aasmaan” (1984), “Lover Boy” (1985), “Zabardast” (1985), and “Hum To Chale Pardesh” (1988). Soon, Chimpu, as he was fondly called, took off to film direction and production.
Rajiv Kapoor directed his first movie in 1996 named “Prem Granth” with Rishi Kapoor (his elder brother) and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. Under the direction of his elder brother, Randhir Kapoor, he produced “Henna” in 1991. After a break of 28 years from Bollywood, Rajiv Kapoor announced his comeback in December 2020 with Ashutosh Gowariker’s movie “Toosidas Junior,” featuring Sanjay Dutt in the lead role.
The sudden demise of the actor brought a wave of mourn in the whole Bollywood industry. Several celebrities, including Lata Mangeshkar, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Naved Jafri, and Tusshar Kapoor, took to social media for expressing their condolences. For paying tribute to the last rites of Rajiv Kapoor, various celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tara Sutaria, and Chunky Pandey were spotted outside the Kapoor residence.
